Bazzaar Means Urban Chic | 10.13.04
This European-Influenced lounge reopened in the summer
spearheaded by former eleven50 manager Bill Kaelin. It's
next door to the Fox Theatre in Midtown, making it a welcome
nighttime destination, much like nearby Halo. With plush
seating, candlelit tables and live DJs, this hot spot
personifies comfy elegance. |
THE SCENE: It's not that "just turned 21" crowd you
see a few blocks north. Bazzaar attracts mostly a range from
mid to late 20s, from scenesters to the glam set to girls having
a night out. Out-of-towners (including many staying at the Georgian
Terrace) also stop in. There are two levels with separate bars,
and the intimate seating arrangement is maximized at the expense
of dancing space. Still, a late arrival on weekends means you
might have to stand
THE TUNES: Considering dancing is not the main draw, the down-tempo,
deep house and nu jazz are appropriate for the lounge atmosphere.
Wednesday nights are "Back to Mine" (based on the
top-selling CD series), featuring local DJs' faves. On Thursdays,
Fridays and Saturdays, there are rotating resident DJs. Thankfully,
Bazzaar gracefully walks the line between highlighting the music
and respecting conversation.
THE PRICE: Even with guest DJs periodically popping in, there's
no cover. (Keep your fingers and toes crossed it stays that
way.) Plus, there's complimentary parking at the Georgian Terrace.
Self-proclaimed ballers-on-a budget may want to stop reading
now. A Red Bull and vodka will run you about $9, a Guinness
about $4.50. But the bartenders certainly give you bang for
your buck. Blais also offers some deliciously eccentric food
selections, but the kitchen generally closes about midnight
Tuesdays and 1 a.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays.
THE 411: 5:30 p.m.-midnight Tuesdays; 5:30 p.m.-3 a.m. Wednesdays-Saturdays.
654 Peachtree St., Atlanta. 404-885-7505, www.bazzaaratlanta.com.
